FSSC 22000 Version 7 Is Here: Key Updates, Timeline & What You Need to Know
FSSC has officially published Version 7 of the FSSC 22000 Certification Scheme, introducing updates aimed at strengthening food safety management systems, improving alignment with international requirements, and supporting sustainability initiatives across the food supply chain.
The new Scheme documents are available on the official FSSC website.
What’s New in Version 7?
The updated version includes:
- Integration of the new ISO 22002-x:2025 prerequisite programme (PRP) standards
- Alignment with the latest GFSI Benchmarking Requirements v2024
- Additional focus on sustainability and continuous improvement
- Clarifications regarding food chain categories and certification activities
- Various technical updates and improvements to the Scheme
Transition Timeline
Please note the following important dates:
- Audits against FSSC 22000 Version 6 may be conducted until 30 April 2027
- Upgrade audits to FSSC 22000 Version 7 shall be conducted from 1 May 2027 until 30 April 2028
- Certified organizations will have a 12-month transition period to implement the new requirements
Transition audits may be conducted during either a surveillance or recertification audit, depending on the organization’s certification cycle.
What Certified Organizations Should Do
Organizations certified against FSSC 22000 Version 6 are encouraged to begin preparations early in order to ensure a smooth transition.
Recommended actions include:
- Reviewing the new Version 7 requirements
- Assessing any required updates to the FSMS and prerequisite programmes
- Training relevant personnel
- Planning the transition audit with the Certification Body between May 1, 2027 and April 30, 2028, depending on the organization’s certification cycle.
